The ignition switch in your car is where it all starts, literally. Without the switch, you can’t drive anywhere. Unfortunately, I have had to deal with a broken ignition switch and even more unfortunately I was in the middle of nowhere when it broke. I want to make sure that doesn’t happen to you! Readers Digest published an article about how to maintain your car and sure enough a blurb about ignition switches was on there. The best piece of advice they could give, and confirmed by the Ryan Service Department, is to lose an extra weight on your key chain when it is in the ignition. The additional weight from extra keys, carabineers, key chains and other items can cause strain on the ignition switch and possibly make it break. Removing such weight can help you maintain a healthy ignition switch and keep your driving, especially when you are in the middle of nowhere. So, when driving make sure just the key is in the ignition and remove the carefully when exiting your vehicle. Drive Safe!
