Why We Cheer for the Underdog

Why do fans cheer for the underdog?  What makes a specific team so compelling?  Everyone, for the most part, is always fighting their own personal battles with the world: work, bills, family, sports, sales, kids, etc.  It can uplift one’s spirit to see an overmatched team beat out the “bad guy.”  An underdog gives people hope for their future because if a random group of people can come together to write a new history then maybe they can too.  I think it is good to live life like the underdog.  You may not always be the most talented, the strongest or even the smartest person, but if you truly believe you can overcome all obstacles then the sky is the limit.  Take the Oakland A’s for example; hope seemed lost as they headed into the bottom of the ninth inning down by two runs, but they never gave up.  Their walk-off October victory is something that can never be taken from each of those players.  It is an event so memorable that no matter what happens tonight, they will hold on to that glory forever.  The same goes for the “washed-up” Raul Ibanez.  The 40 year old veteran pinch-hit for Alex Rodriguez, the highest paid player in the game, and hit 2 homeruns, including a walk-off bomb in the 12th inning.  Whoever you side with, live like an underdog.  Fight for what makes you happy and content.  We only have one chance in this world…we might as well take every moment we can.

At Ryan Motors, vehicles may be our profession, but people are our passion.
